Bringing a piece of Somalia with a Community Event 

Nawal, a dedicated community leader, recently organized an event for the Somali population in her area. The event aimed to provide more than just culture and language expertise for the community, but also serve as a resource guide for accessing government services.

Pandemic Outreach and work

As the world continues to navigate the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations have had to pivot their operations and outreach efforts to meet the needs of their communities. One such organization is Building Our Bridge, a project led by the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle that aims to empower and support the Somali community in Seattle, Washington.

As part of this project, the organization recently held an informational session on voting, led by Maya Manus, Advocacy and Civic Engagement Coordinator for the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. The session was attended by members of the Somali community, who were provided with important information about the voting process and the importance of civic engagement.

One key aspect of the session was interpretation services provided by Somali Instructor Nawal Indhosacad. As a fluent speaker of both Somali and English, Nawal played a crucial role in ensuring that the information being presented was accessible and understandable to all attendees, regardless of their language abilities.

Nawal's interpretation skills were especially valuable during the Q&A portion of the session, where attendees were able to ask questions and get clarification on specific issues. The session was led by a Workforce Professional and Community Relations Consultant and was fully conducted in Somali to ensure accessibility for all attendees. However, what made this session particularly noteworthy was the presence of Nawal Indhosacad, a Somali instructor and interpreter, who played a vital role in making the session a success.

Nawal's role as a Somali instructor and interpreter was essential in ensuring that the information being provided was accurate and understood by all attendees.
